BACOLOD CITY – The city government, in partnership with Tanduay Distillers Inc., is gearing up for the fifth edition of the Rum Festival, set to run from Aug. 28 to 30.
The festivities were officially launched at the Bacolod City Government Center on Aug. 13, kicking off preparations two weeks ahead of the main event.
This year’s celebration, themed “Natatagong Galing,” aims to showcase the hidden talents and rich cultural heritage of Bacolod and its people.
Event planning is led by Charmaine Pahate, with Rodney Ascalon, president of Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc., serving as program director.
Festival-goers can look forward to rum appreciation sessions, street dance parades, culinary exhibitions, and live performances.
Top acts include Amiel Sol, Robledo Timido, Zack Tabudlo, and Mayonnaise, alongside Tanduay ambassadors Derek Ramsay and Julia Barretto.
Mayor Greg Gasataya, speaking at the launch, emphasized the cultural depth behind the event.
“Rum is not just a drink here; it is a living symbol of our history,” he said, citing the strong ties between sugarcane production, rum-making, and the local economy.
Gasataya also highlighted the festival’s broader significance.
“We are a city and a nation full of hidden talents, skills, and creativity, ready to be seen and celebrated,” he said.
“Bacolod is not just a city of smiles—it is a city of passion, resilience, and artistry.”
Rum education is a key focus this year, with sessions designed to deepen appreciation for rum’s heritage, craftsmanship, and evolving role in modern mixology.
Councilor Em Ang, who authored the ordinance declaring the third week of August as Bacolod’s official Rum Festival week, emphasized the event’s dual purpose.
“This isn’t just about entertainment,” she said.
“We want to change the narrative—rum isn’t just for drinking. It can elevate food, desserts, and cocktails too.”
Launched in 2019, the Rum Festival has grown into a landmark event that reflects the city’s dynamic blend of tradition and innovation.
