Bacolod Turns Over Housing Units to 64 Families

BACOLOD CITY—Despite initial doubts and criticisms, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez expressed satisfaction as 64 housing units under the Asenso Yuhum Housing project were officially turned over to beneficiaries.

On Saturday, January 24, 2025, Mayor Benitez led the turnover of the first building of the Asenso Yuhum Housing project in Arao, Barangay Vista Alegre. The event marked a significant milestone in the city’s 4PH housing initiative, showcasing strong collaboration between local and national governments to address Bacolod’s housing needs.

“I am happy,” Benitez said when asked about the completion and turnover of the units.

The 64 housing units under the 4PH program, an initiative of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., are the first to be turned over to occupants nationwide.

“We just can’t say anything because it’s here now. Finally, it’s happening,” Benitez added.

The mayor acknowledged the challenges faced during the project’s implementation, which initially caused doubts.

“Of course, there were many who doubted at first, thinking it might not push through due to glitches and problems, making developers anxious as well,” Benitez said.

Each unit costs PHP 2,100 per month under a 30-year payment scheme with PAG-IBIG, subsidized by more than PHP 4,000 through the national government via the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD). Beneficiaries can move in immediately without waiting for full payment.

Benitez plans to meet with DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalina Alquizar to institutionalize the subsidy and ensure continued support for future projects.

The mayor emphasized that the project has achieved its purpose by providing homes to families who were previously renting or without permanent housing.

Joining Mayor Benitez during the ceremony were Bacolod Congressman Greg Gasataya, Abang Lingkod Partylist 1st nominee Board Member Manman Ko, Councilors Celia Flor, Thaddy Sayson, former Councilor Homer Bais, Kalaw Puentevella, Al Victor Espino, Pao Sy, Em Ang, and PAG-IBIG representatives.
