Cases of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury also increased by 13, from 96 in 2024 to 109 in 2025.
Police Maj. Elmer Bonilla, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit, said the rise in severe accidents was linked to reckless driving behaviors, including driving under the influence of alcohol.
Bonilla said other contributing factors included improper or nonuse of safety gear such as helmets, ongoing road rehabilitation projects, poorly lit roads, and motorists’ unfamiliarity with certain routes.
He said most homicide-related traffic incidents involved motorcycles.
