BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The city government has earmarked PHP 14 million for the purchase of 10 electric patrol vehicles for the Bacolod City Police Office as part of efforts to strengthen police mobility and sustainability.
Mayor Greg Gasataya announced the project during the turnover of additional equipment and logistical support to the police office on Wednesday.
Gasataya said the electric vehicles will be distributed to the city’s 10 police stations, marking the first deployment of fully electric patrol vehicles in Negros.
“These will be full electric vehicles assigned to 10 police stations as a way of showing our support and appreciation for the accomplishments of the BCPO,” Gasataya said.
He said investing in green vehicles is timely and practical, noting that electric patrol cars are both economical and environmentally friendly.
“We’re trying to replicate the best practices of other local government units and get feedback from them,” Gasataya said.
He added that the transition will help reduce gasoline consumption, which has long posed challenges to police operations, particularly in terms of fuel liquidation.
“They can maximize patrolling without the use of gas,” Gasataya said, noting that charging stations for electric vehicles are already available in the city.
Gasataya said the vehicles are expected to be turned over by the first quarter of the year as the city completes procurement requirements, with funds already secured.
Citing the police force’s role in maintaining peace and order, Gasataya assured continued support to further enhance operational capabilities.
During the same event, the city government also turned over 36 computers, 34 printers and 40,800 rounds of 9 mm ammunition to the BCPO.
Gasataya underscored the daily risks faced by police officers, particularly in ensuring public safety and preventing the entry of illegal drugs into the city.
The BCPO expressed gratitude for the sustained assistance from the local government.
Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, BCPO director, said the additional resources are essential in improving daily police work and strengthening training, especially for members of the Special Weapons and Tactics team.
“Rest assured that all the support given by the city will be reciprocated through good and quality service to the people of Bacolod,” Coronica said.
The city’s support for law enforcement also includes the turnover of two armored vans to the BCPO SWAT team last year, reinforcing Bacolod’s long-term commitment to public safety.
