Covid-19 cases in Iloilo City are constantly increasing with its average daily new cases up by 22% compared to December 2020.
From January 1 to January 29, 2021, Iloilo City logged 306 cases, higher compared to 271 cases recorded in the same period last December, based on the Iloilo City COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center.
Meanwhile, the city’s daily Covid-19 rate is at 11, or 22.22 % higher than December’s daily average rate of 9 cases.
The spike in cases started in the second week of January, right after the Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Authorities believe the spike is due to large gatherings that happened during the holidays.
Last January 27, Iloilo City recorded 31 new Covid-19 cases – the highest single day spike since November 2020.
Majority of the cases recorded in January were local transmission cases.
Based on COVID-19 Regional Case Bulletin issued on Jan. 30, total cases in Iloilo City climbed to 4,992 with 243 active cases, 4,593 recoveries, and 155 deaths.
As of 12PM of January 31, nine local transmission cases were recorded in the metro.
Out of the nine new cases, six are members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) stationed at Bo. Obrero, Lapuz. (ERS)
