A student of Aklan State University Kalibo Campus clinched the championship trophy in the 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz Regional competition, conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority at District 21 Hotel, Iloilo City on November 10.
Ms. Jeriah Borreros, a first-year college student of the said university, outplayed 17 other contestants coming from different colleges and universities in the region.
As a reward for her winning, she received a plaque of recognition, medal and gift certificate awarded by Mrs. Nelida C. Amolar, OIC Regional Director of PSA in Western Visayas.
Ms. Borreros will serve as Western Visayas’ representative in the national finals to be held in Manila on December 5, 2023.
“We would like to congratulate Ms. Borreros for this unprecedented feat she has achieved in this statistics quiz competition,” said Engr. Antonet Catubuan, Chief Statistical Specialist of Aklan.
She did not only bring pride and honor to her school but also to the PSA provincial office and the entire province of Aklan.
Ms. Borreros is mentored by Engr. Joel Molas, a professor of the university.
The PSQ is an annual activity of PSA involving freshmen college students to promote the importance of statistics among the youths.
It was held in line with the culmination of the 34th National Statistics Month celebration in the region, with the theme “Accelerating Progress: Promoting Data and Statistics for Healthy Philippines.”
