Army’s 3ID chief earns second star

ILOILO CITY — The newly installed commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division has earned his second star nearly two weeks after assuming the post.
Maj. Gen. Joey Escanillas received his second star Tuesday, July 28, during a simple ceremony at the Philippine Army Officers’ Clubhouse in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Newly appointed Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio Nafarrete conferred the new rank on Escanillas.
A native of Alimodian, Iloilo, Escanillas was designated the 36th commander of the 3rd Infantry Division on July 15, 2026.
Before assuming command of the division, he served as its assistant division commander.
Escanillas also held key positions within the division’s area of responsibility, including leadership roles in Joint Task Force Cebu and the 302nd Infantry Brigade in Negros Oriental.
The 3rd Infantry Division said Escanillas’ promotion reflected his steadfast dedication, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to service.
