Andre Iguodala retires from the NBA after 19 illustrious seasons

Four-time NBA champion Andre Iguodala decided to hang up his jersey and announced his retirement from professional basketball last October 21, 2023.

The athletic swingman turned-role player confirmed the development via a phone call with Andscape and confirmed that he will not be signing any active NBA contracts and embark on his new journey after his pro career.

“It’s just the right time. Time started to get limited for me and I didn’t want to put anything in the back seat,” said Iguodala.

Known to be a freaky athlete who started his career as a slashing forward, Iguodala later found his footing when he signed with the Golden State Warriors in the 2013 season.

From there, Iguodala accepted his role as the ultimate complementary player to head coach Steve Kerr’s system, one of the main reasons why the Golden State dynasty was born.

It took two years for the adjustment to show results as the Warriors finally clinched the title in 2015 and ran it back again in 2017, 2018, and 2022.

Iguodala highlighted his four championships with one Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 2015.

During his 19-year career, Iguodala averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, in a total of 1,231 games played.

“You want to play at a high level. But then family is a lot. My son is 16 and then two girls. So, looking forward to seeing them grow up in those important years,” added Iguodala.

Aside from the Warriors, Iguodala also spent some of his playing years at Philadelphia, Denver, and Miami.
