The potential No. 1 overall pick in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) just pulled out of the Rookie Draft and will not see action in the upcoming conference.
On May 31, 2026, multiple reports confirmed that opposite hitter Alyssa Solomon canceled her PVL dream and will look to render her services to the Alas Pilipinas Women’s National Volleyball Team.
Hustle & Groove Management, Solomon’s agency, first broke the news via a social media post on Facebook captioned: “Projected No. 1 pick withdraws, reshaping draft board.”
Known as one of the most dominant volleyball players to wear the National University (NU) threads, Solomon was expected to join the PVL Draft after her stint with the Osaka Marvelous in Japan had ended.
Solomon only saw limited action in the Japan SV.League and barely flaunted her full offensive arsenal after her playing time regressed as the season went on.
Right after her contract ended, Solomon enlisted for the PVL Rookie Draft Combine, but her final decision came when Hustle & Groove made the official announcement just a day before the draft withdrawal deadline.
Rumors circulated that Solomon is eyeing another international campaign, with several European volleyball clubs already drawing interest in signing the three-time UAAP champion.
As of now, Solomon is committed to Alas Pilipinas after a shocking roster retooling took place amid the shaky rift between the former coaching staff and the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF).
In retrospect, former national team captain Jia Morado-de Guzman slammed the PNVF for failing to align the PVL season with the international FIVB calendar.
As a result, the core national team roster, led by de Guzman, Bella Belen, Vanie Gandler, Angel Canino, and Shaina Nitura, decided not to participate in the AVC Women’s Cup.
The PNVF also had issues with its former designated head coach, Jorge Souza de Brito, who filed a case against the federation over alleged unpaid salaries and performance bonuses.
