SERVICE EXPANSION: Metro Pacific Iloilo Water launches pipeline project to bring 24/7 water service to new Iloilo City communities

Metro Pacific Iloilo Water Inc. (MPIW) held a groundbreaking ceremony to launch the PHP 4.2-million pipeline project in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro, that will bring reliable potable water service to two developing communities currently without water connections.

The project marks the first of several network expansion initiatives aimed at increasing water access and service coverage across Iloilo City.

The project will install 500 linear meters of new pipeline serving two communities that currently have no water connections: the USWAG Residential Building Complex of the Iloilo City Government and the National Housing Authority (NHA) Relocation Site.

When completed in September 2026, residents at both sites will have potable water available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ready before the first family moves in.

“Our goal is to cover as many waterless areas as possible, and we have projects lined up to increase service coverage from its current 31% to 60% of Iloilo City within the next two years,” said Metro Pacific Water President and CEO Andrew B. Pangilinan.

“We are doing this through a phased approach that carries us through until our desalination facility is energized. This project in Barangay San Isidro is part of that commitment. When families move into the USWAG Residential Building Complex and the NHA Relocation Site, water will already be there. Day one. Around the clock.”

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 1, 2026, at the USWAG Residential Building Complex, with opening remarks and a project overview delivered by MPIW Chief Operating Officer Angelo David C. Berba.

Messages of support were given by Punong Barangay Ronela Juaneza, MIWD General Manager Alfredo Tayo III, Pangilinan, and Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas.

The project reflects the continued collaboration among MPIW, the Iloilo City Government, and the Metro Iloilo Water District to ensure that water infrastructure keeps pace with the city’s growth.

Over the next two years, Metro Pacific Water, Metro Iloilo Bulk Water, and Metro Pacific Iloilo Water will collectively invest more than PHP 12 billion in water infrastructure across the region.

Within the same period, MPIW is targeting a reduction in nonrevenue water to 29% and an expansion of service coverage to 60% of Iloilo City.

Looking further ahead, MIWD has highlighted 90% coverage as the shared goal to be achieved by 2028, a milestone that will require sustained collaboration among MPIW, MIWD, and the city government.
