Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson made WNBA history after becoming the first player to bag four Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophies, confirmed on Sept. 21, 2025.
With her fourth WNBA MVP award, Wilson broke the tie with former Los Angeles Sparks franchise player Lisa Leslie, who won during the 2001, 2004, and 2006 seasons.
After the end of the WNBA Playoffs’ first round, the league made an official announcement, hailing Wilson as this season’s MVP following a dominant turnaround during the second half of the regular season.
Out of the 72 national panel members composed of sportswriters and broadcasters, the lefty star earned 51 first-place votes, edging Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier, who only tallied 18 first-place votes.
Surprising Wilson with the historic feat were WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and Miami Heat star center Bam Adebayo, who visited Las Vegas’ training facility to present the award.
Wilson figured in a three-way close fight with Collier and Phoenix’s Alyssa Thomas, but Las Vegas’ 16-game winning streak to end the regular season became the deciding factor for the national panel.
During that stretch, Wilson was unstoppable both on the road and at home, torching opposing teams with an average of 20 points and 10 rebounds to keep the streak alive.
Wilson played a total of 40 regular-season games and averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.6 steals per game.
This season, Wilson proved she was on a different level after recording the first-ever 30/20 game in WNBA history, steering the Aces to a comeback win over the Connecticut Sun.
Wilson played 36 minutes in the come-from-behind effort and finished with 32 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Before her 30/20 feat, Wilson set multiple WNBA records over the past six years, including becoming the fastest player to score 5,000 points—doing so in just 238 games.
Despite winning the historic MVP award, Wilson reiterated that the recognition will not matter if they don’t accomplish their ultimate goal of the season, which is winning the WNBA championship title.
