In the aftermath of the recent earthquake that struck Cebu, the Aboitiz Group, in partnership with key organizations, has deployed relief assistance to affected communities, reaching thousands of families in need.
As of Oct. 3, the group has allocated more than PHP 2.5 million worth of aid, distributing 11,385 liters of water, 3,600 food packs, and 2,000 nonfood items, benefiting approximately 3,600 families.
Eleven CitySavings employees in Bogo City were also directly impacted by the disaster, prompting immediate support and recovery assistance, with some employee volunteers actively joining relief operations.
“These are running figures as we continue to provide aid and assess the evolving needs of our communities. We will keep updating our partners and stakeholders as more relief efforts are carried out,” said Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar, president of the Aboitiz Foundation.
Alongside humanitarian efforts, AboitizPower has restored one of its Therma Visayas Inc. generating units following safety inspections, helping stabilize electricity supply in the Visayas, with full operations expected by Monday, Oct. 6.
Relief operations were carried out through the support of several Aboitiz business units, including Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Aboitiz Foundation, AboitizPower, Visayan Electric, UnionBank, CitySavings, AboitizFoods, Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines, Aboitiz InfraCapital, AboitizLand, Aboitiz Economic Estates, and Aboitiz Construction.
The efforts were coordinated closely with partner organizations such as Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Philippine Red Cross Cebu Chapter, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry–Lapu-Lapu City.
The Aboitiz Foundation reiterated its commitment to helping communities recover and rebuild, as part of its mission to drive meaningful change and uplift lives nationwide.
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck near Bogo City on Sept. 30, damaging homes and infrastructure and prompting evacuations and relief operations across northern Cebu.
