BACOLOD CITY – The City Government of Bacolod has allocated PHP 6 million to support its 166-member delegation to the Batang Pinoy 2025 National Championships, scheduled from October 25 to 31 in General Santos City.
Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed on Monday that the city covered all expenses, including transportation, uniforms, and coaches’ allowances.
Each of the 144 athletes and 22 coaches received a subsidy of PHP 8,000.
The delegation was formally recognized during a send-off ceremony held at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds as part of the city’s weekly flag-raising activity.
Bacolod athletes will compete in 12 disciplines: aquatics/swimming, archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, chess, cycling, futsal (boys and girls), gymnastics, Muay Thai, taekwondo, beach volleyball, and wushu.
Mayor Gasataya expressed his full support for the city’s athletes, emphasizing the importance of pride and sportsmanship.
“The city is behind them. Among our priorities is sports tourism,” he said.
The Batang Pinoy, officially known as the Philippine Youth Games, is an annual grassroots sports program organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for athletes aged 15 and under.
Participants represent various local government units across the country.
Gasataya also announced Bacolod’s official bid to host the 2026 edition of the Batang Pinoy.
“We are hoping and praying that the next Batang Pinoy will be held in Bacolod City,” he said.
He added that the city has the necessary facilities, hospitality, and community spirit to host a national youth sports event of this scale.
The city’s delegation was presented by Atty. Jose Marty Go, Secretary to the Mayor, during the send-off ceremony.
Bacolod, known for its growing sports infrastructure and active youth development programs, has consistently fielded strong contingents in regional and national competitions.
The city’s bid to host the 2026 Batang Pinoy reflects its commitment to grassroots sports and holistic youth development.
Many Batang Pinoy alumni have gone on to represent the Philippines in international events such as the Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Games.
The Bacolod delegation is set to leave later this week for General Santos City, ready to represent the City of Smiles on the national stage.
