ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Ten persons, including two minors, were arrested Sunday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2022, for alleged illegal cockfighting at Sitio Porug, Barangay Tina, Dumarao, Capiz.
The Dumarao police identified the arrested suspects as Bernardo Fernandez, 67; Modesto Bernal Alfuente Jr., 54, both of said barangay; Danilo Kim Gerato, 71, of Brgy. Sibariwan; Dionecio Yanson Gelaca, 52; Ernanie Demalata Deocampo, 69; Valentino Basinang Varso, 71, all residents of Brgy. Aglanot; Roel Bano Bernantes, 35, of Brgy. Sagrada Familia; Jayme Baylon Estiban, 53, of Brgy. Bagacay, all of Dumarao town, and two minor boys.
It was around 11 a.m. Sunday when the Dumarao PNP and Capiz PMFC were informed about an alleged illegal cockfight in the village.
Recovered from the suspects were 18 cockfighting chickens (10 live, 8 dead), 5 pieces of woven basket, P156 bet money, and gambling paraphernalia.
The suspects were detained at Dumarao Municipal Police Station and were charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or Anti-Illegal Gambling Law.
The two minors were turned over to the municipal social welfare and development office.
