Green sea turtle found in Sagay

BACOLOD City – A green sea turtle was rescued after it was stranded on the coastline of Barangay Taba-ao, Sagay City, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

Based on the report of the Sagay Marine Reserve (SMR), the turtle got stranded in one of the fishnets of a fishing boat on the shore of Purok Paglaum.

The male sea turtle weighed 150 kilograms and measured 47 inches in length and 38 inches in width.

Barangay Captain Edgardo Joy Vasquez said the stranded sea turtle was found afloat during low tide, prompting him to coordinate with SMR.

Representatives from SMR, police, Philippine Coast Guard, and barangay tanods responded.

The turtle was immediately released into the sea near Carbin Reef after a routine check.

The SMR reminded the public to follow the same should marine life be stranded nearby.
