Under the amber light of Iloilo’s famed Sunset Boulevard, the usual joggers gave way to something louder, looser, and unexpectedly strategic: a high-octane Zumba session helmed by Iloilo’s own “Dancing Doctors,” all in the name of diabetes awareness.
Think: coordinated chaos in activewear. Trained instructors—led by Zin Francis Zapanta and Coach Ireen Besin—kept the energy kinetic, while the beats veered from Latin pop to K-pop. Medical banners flanked the space, but no white coats in sight—just sweatbands, neon Lycra, and conviction.
Health advocates Dr. Rollin Tabuena and Dr. Ma. Daisy Tabuena joined Dr. Rossana Subade-Junio, president of Diabetes Philippines–Iloilo, in kicking off the movement, literally. Rotary Club of Iloilo-South President Dr. Elsie Locsin was seen mid-routine, while student leaders from IDCM and WVSU AMSA punched the air with gusto.
Nutrition giants like Abbott and Kalbe backed the effort—proof that pharma reps can dance too.
