A police anti-drug operation in Zarraga, Iloilo, led to the confiscation of more than PHP 442,000 worth of suspected shabu.
Alias Glenn, 35, a resident of Hacienda Fe Subdivision Phase 1, Barangay Sambag, Zarraga, was arrested in a roadside buy-bust operation in Sambag on the evening of Dec. 13.
Members of the Zarraga Municipal Police Station, along with the Iloilo Police Provincial Office–Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Team 1, apprehended the suspect after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu.
When frisked, Glenn was found with eight more sachets of suspected shabu and several non-drug items.
Lt. Vincent Garcia Jr., Zarraga police chief, said the seized drugs weighed 65 grams, with a standard drug price of PHP 442,000.
Garcia said Glenn had no stable job and worked only as an on-call driver.
He had been under police surveillance for some time due to his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Glenn had no previous drug-related arrests.
He allegedly sourced his supply from a known drug personality in nearby Dumangas town.
The suspect is now detained and will be charged with violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
