A 20-year-old man was arrested for alleged gunrunning following a police entrapment operation on the evening of April 26 in Arevalo, Iloilo City.
Police identified the suspect as John, an e-bike driver from Barangay Sto. Niño Norte, Arevalo.
He was arrested in Barangay Yulo Drive, Arevalo.
Police said John allegedly sold a .22-caliber revolver for PHP 1,100 to a police poseur-buyer.
Personnel of the Iloilo City Police Office-City Intelligence Unit, led by Lt. Jose Victor Minerva, carried out the operation.
In his defense, John claimed that he found the handgun in a grassy area of Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, on April 25.
He said he kept the gun because he feared he might be arrested for gun possession and later decided to sell it.
John claimed he was forced to do so because his newborn child was suffering from a high fever and he needed money to have the child checked.
The suspect is detained at the Iloilo City Police Station 6 and will face a charge for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
