BACOLOD City – A suspected member of the New People’s Army (NPA) who got injured in a clash with military troopers at Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last Wednesday is now under hospital arrest.
The wounded suspect was identified as Gary Turmis, 26, of Barangay Binobohan, according to a report from the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo).
Turmis was found by the troopers of the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) after he was reportedly left behind by his comrades during their escape, based on the statement of some residents who witnessed the incident.
The Army applied first aid on his wounds and later took him to a hospital in Dumaguete City.
Colonel Bryant Demot, Norppo acting director, in a statement said they recognized the timely coordination and reporting of Guihulngan residents that led to the apprehension of the suspected rebel.
Demot called on the people of Guihulngan City and the entire province to be mindful and be supportive of the government’s peace initiatives.
