BACOLOD City – Fishermen rescued a wounded dolphin after it got stranded off the waters of Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on Monday.
Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental, said the dolphin was found at the shallow portion of the Maricalum bay.
Dolphin sightings are sometimes reported at the Maricalum bay because of its clear water, Benjamin said.
He said the mammal had an open wound at the mid abdominal portion or dorsal part of its body.
It was turned over to the City Environment and Natural Resources Office for proper disposition.
It was released back to the sea, as it can still swim into the deep part of the water outside the bay, Benjamin said.
