A world-class convention center is set to rise in Guimaras, ushering in a new era for tourism, business, and community engagement in the island province.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Guimaras District Engineering Office, in collaboration with the provincial government of Guimaras, is leading the construction of the Guimaras Convention Center.
The ₱130-million project, funded under the Fiscal Year 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), involves the construction of a 7,902-square-meter, three-story facility equipped with modern amenities.
A ceremonial groundbreaking was held late last year, led by DPWH Region 6 Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel, along with Guimaras local officials and DPWH Guimaras DEO representatives.

According to Oropel, the convention center is designed to serve as a premier venue for conferences, conventions, and community events, while also attracting national and international gatherings that will contribute to the region’s socio-economic growth.
“This facility aligns with the Department’s vision of enabling a comfortable life for Filipinos through safe, reliable, and resilient infrastructure,” Oropel said.
He added that the center supports the local government’s goals of boosting tourism, enhancing business opportunities, and providing a versatile space for cultural and social events.

“This project is a testament to the strong partnership between the local government and the DPWH, resulting in a structure that will benefit generations to come,” Oropel emphasized.
Once completed, the Guimaras Convention Center will host a variety of social, educational, and cultural activities, including festivals, conferences, and exhibitions.
The facility is expected to not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and open opportunities for cultural exchange and economic growth in Guimaras.
