BACOLOD CITY — A woman voluntarily surrendered 150 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 1.020 million to authorities in Barangay 1 last week, hours after her live-in partner was arrested in a drug operation in Barangay Tangub on May 27, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region said Monday.
Police Maj. Eugene Tolentino, head of Police Station 2, said the 28-year-old suspect, identified only as alias “Josh,” was arrested by Police Station 8 during a drug bust in Barangay Tangub.
Police seized PHP 476,000 worth of suspected shabu from Josh during the operation.
Tolentino said Josh allegedly told his father, who visited him in jail, that he had hidden PHP 1.020 million worth of illegal drugs inside their house and wanted to surrender them to authorities.
Barangay officials then coordinated with police until Josh’s live-in partner turned over the suspected shabu to Police Station 2.
PRO-NIR said the woman’s action showed cooperation with authorities and support for the government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
The regional police office said the development also reflected growing public awareness and trust in police efforts to build safer and drug-free communities.
PRO-NIR said it would intensify its anti-drug campaign through stronger law enforcement operations, intelligence monitoring, and community cooperation.
Meanwhile, 100 grams of suspected shabu valued at PHP 680,800 were seized from a 50-year-old man in Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, on Monday.
PRO-NIR said the Dumaguete operation removed another high-value individual from the streets and prevented a substantial amount of illegal drugs from reaching communities.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region covers Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor under the reestablished Negros Island Region, which was created through Republic Act No. 12000 in 2024.
