BACOLOD CITY — A woman was injured after her former boyfriend allegedly shot her out of jealousy while she was celebrating her birthday at an eatery in Barangay Villamonte late Saturday night.
Police identified the victim as Queen, a resident of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Police Lt. Raphael Palacios, deputy chief of Police Station 4, said Queen was having a birthday dinner with a male friend when the suspect, identified only as Ace, arrived on a motorcycle.
Palacios said the suspect, who is also from Kabankalan City, had followed the victim to Bacolod.
The suspect reportedly confronted the victim and asked whether her companion was her new boyfriend.
Police said the suspect then forcibly pulled the victim and tried to make her go with him, but she resisted.
This angered the suspect, prompting him to draw his firearm and aim at the victim’s friend.
However, Palacios said the gun malfunctioned and the victim’s friend was not hit.
The suspect then allegedly aimed at the victim and shot her twice, hitting her in the abdomen.
Police said Queen is recuperating in a hospital.
Recovered from the scene were two dud bullets, two slugs, and two cartridge cases from an undisclosed type of pistol.
Palacios said the suspect remains at large.
Customers of the eatery and nearby establishments were unharmed in the incident.
Police are continuing their pursuit of the suspect, who may face complaints for attempted murder or frustrated murder, depending on the findings of investigators and prosecutors.
