BACOLOD City – A passenger of a tricycle was gunned down by two unidentified men on a motorcycle along South Capitol road in Barangay 8 here last Saturday.
Police identified the victim as Medelyn Benignos, 29, a native of Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, and was residing in Barangay 2 here.
Lieutenant Andy Ofalia, deputy station commander of Police Station 2, said the victim hired a tricycle after closing her cellphone accessories store in a shopping mall.
Ofalia said the tricycle driver decided to get the victim as a passenger, as he was just waiting for his wife to get off from work in the same mall.
Ofalia said the couple was supposed to send the victim home, when the perpetrators probably tailed them from the shopping mall to the said area where the shooting happened.
Ofalia said the perpetrators, who were wearing helmets shot the victim twice at close range then fled.
Ofalia said the victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds in the head and nape, while the couple was unharmed.
“Gin target gid siya (victim),” he added.
Police recovered from the scene two fired cartridge cases and two .45 caliber slugs.
Ofalia said the victim had been living here for nine years already.
He said they are exploring different angles behind the killing – personal, love triangle, and business.
He said the victim has no record of any drug links based on their initial investigation.
He said they will still have to check the copies of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed nearby to aid them in the investigation.
