Woman killed after hit by car

BACOLOD CITY – A 57-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Sitio Mohon, Barangay Binicuil, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental early Wednesday.
The victim was identified as a certain “Nenita,” a resident of Barangay Tampalon, a caretaker of a Catholic Church.
Police Capt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said the victim bought food across a hospital, where her husband was confined.
While she was crossing the street, an alleged speeding car hit her, and she was thrown off, he added.
The victim was pronounced dead in a hospital, according to Gasataya.
The 37-year-old car driver from Cauayan town, was on his way here for work, when the accident happened at around 5 a.m.
Gasataya said that both parties had an initial settlement. The car driver will be released from police custody after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention, he added.
