Woman drowns while picking snails

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 56-year-old woman from President Roxas town drowned while picking snails or “bagungon” Thursday afternoon in a river at Sitio Pantalan, Barangay Vizcaya, President Roxas, Capiz.
Police identified the victim as Maria Fatima Villeza of said barangay.
According to Police Corporal Norman Delfin, President Roxas Municipal Police Station investigator, the woman left Thursday morning to gather snails for their viand.
But her live-in partner Melindo Doce later found her floating in the river at around 10 a.m.
The family believed the victim was unaware that she was already in the deep portion of the river while gathering snails.
The victim was taken to the nearest hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctor.
