An elderly woman was found dead early morning of July 12 at Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
The body of 62-year-old Elizabeth Mendez was fished out of a deep well near their house at Barangay San Sebastian, Sta. Barbara.
It was believed that Mendez went out to fetch water around 4:45 a.m.
When she failed to go back home by 5:10 a.m., her youngest child went out to look for her.
She was not immediately found until another person fetched water from the same deep well.
Mendez’s body was discovered only after that person failed to pull up the pail which tangled with the corpse.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection were later called on to retrieve the body.
Major Jose Rey Pabalan, Sta. Barbara police chief, said there were no signs of foul play in Mendez’s death.
“She could have been overpowered by the weight of the pail of water,” he said.
Pabalan said there’s no word from the family yet if they wanted an autopsy on Mendez’s body.
