In a tragic turn of events, a 55-year-old woman’s body was retrieved from a river in Dumangas, Iloilo, on the morning of March 24.
Elsa Diel, from People’s Village, Barangay PD Monfort North, was found deceased at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Her discovery followed an altercation with her live-in partner, 63-year-old Yunnie Cordova, while they were tending to a fishpond near the river where Diel was later located.
Witnesses reported hearing a dispute between the pair around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, which, unfortunately, was not unusual for the couple.
They were known to have physical confrontations, especially after consuming alcohol, with Cordova often seen pushing or tossing Diel into the fishpond.
On that fateful Saturday night, a bystander witnessed Cordova carrying Diel in a fireman’s hold before throwing her into the river. Diel was reportedly heard crying out for assistance.
Cordova has been apprehended and is facing homicide charges in the wake of the discovery.
