KALIBO, AKLAN — Prices in Aklan barely moved at the end of 2025, with headline inflation steady at 0.9% in December, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority, indicating only a modest year-on-year increase in the cost of goods and services.
At this rate, a household that spent PHP 500 on basic items in December 2024 would have needed about PHP 504 in December 2025.
Inflation in Aklan remained lower than both the regional and national averages, which were recorded at 1.8% during the same period.
Transport was the primary contributor to price increases, accounting for nearly 39% of overall inflation due to higher fares and vehicle-related costs.
Rising prices of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and personal care products also added upward pressure on overall inflation.
Food prices continued to decline on an annual basis, although at a slower pace compared with previous months.
Lower prices of rice, fish, and meat helped ease food inflation, partially offsetting higher costs of vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, and pulses.
In public markets in Kalibo, rice prices ranged from PHP 30 to PHP 58 per kilogram in December, underscoring the mixed movement of staple food prices.
The purchasing power of the peso in Aklan remained at PHP 0.80, meaning each peso could buy only 80 centavos’ worth of goods compared with 2018 prices.
The PSA said it will continue to monitor price movements to provide timely information for policymakers, businesses, and households as they plan for potential inflationary pressures.
