Western Visayas police recover 415 firearms, 33 explosives

Police in Western Visayas recovered 415 firearms in March as part of an intensified campaign against loose firearms.

Records from Police Regional Office 6 showed that police units across the region also recovered 33 explosives during the month.

Most of the firearms and explosives were voluntarily surrendered or turned over to police stations and offices, based on consolidated data.

The records showed that 33 firearms and four explosives were confiscated during police operations.

The same data showed that 364 firearms and 29 explosives were voluntarily surrendered.

Another 18 firearms were deposited with police.

Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan, Western Visayas police chief, said the recovery and turnover of firearms indicate a stronger regional campaign against loose firearms.

“Malaki ang maitutulong nito sa pagpapanatili ng kapayapaan at kaayusan sa ating rehiyon,” he said, as he called on the public to remain vigilant against threats in their communities.

PRO-6 also urged the public to support law enforcement efforts by reporting illegal activities and complying with existing firearms laws.
