Western Visayas focus crimes drop 38% in July

ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) recorded a 38.1% decrease in focus crimes in Western Visayas in July 2026.
Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, regional director of PRO-6, said focus crime incidents dropped to 104 in July 2026 from 168 in July 2025.
Compared with June 2026, focus crimes in July also declined by 21.22%.
Notably, rape cases topped the list of focus crimes in July 2025 with 46 incidents.
However, rape cases dropped to 10 in July 2026, or a decrease of 78.26%.
Motorcycle carnapping also posted a significant decline, dropping to three cases from 13 in July 2025, or a reduction of 76.92%.
Other focus crimes that registered declines were murder, down 28.57%; physical injury, down 20%; robbery, down 15.38%; and theft, down 13.63%.
Homicide cases remained unchanged at eight during the period.
Meanwhile, PRO-6 recorded no incidents of motor vehicle carnapping in July.
All city and provincial police offices in Western Visayas also registered declines in focus crimes, with the Antique Police Provincial Office posting the biggest reduction at 68.42%.
The Guimaras Police Provincial Office followed with a 66.66% decline, while the Aklan Police Provincial Office and Iloilo City Police Office each recorded a 50% decrease, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office posted a 23.63% reduction, and the Capiz Police Provincial Office logged a 16.66% decline.
Tuaño said the significant reduction in focus crimes was the result of intensified police visibility, focused law enforcement operations, and strengthened community engagement.
With the decline in focus crimes, Tuaño said the challenge now is sustaining the gains.
To further build on PRO-6’s accomplishments, Tuaño urged ground commanders to intensify crime prevention efforts and strengthen partnerships with communities.
He also emphasized the need to sustain heightened police visibility throughout the region.
