Western Visayas’ production of key crops other than palay and corn showed a mixed pattern in the third quarter of 2025, with coconut output declining year-on-year even as banana and pineapple posted increases, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSA said the figures are preliminary and cover Western Visayas excluding Negros Occidental following Republic Act No. 12000, also known as the Negros Island Act.
Coconut remained the region’s top crop by volume at 94,047 metric tons (mt) in Q3 2025, but this was an 8.0% drop from 102,213 mt in Q3 2024.
Banana ranked second at 32,209 mt, up 5.4% from 30,547 mt a year earlier, the PSA reported. Sweet potato placed third at 3,949 mt, down 4.2% from 4,123 mt in Q3 2024.
Pineapple was fourth at 3,769 mt, rising 8.8% from 3,464 mt year-on-year. Cassava finished fifth at 3,428 mt, declining 16.2% from 4,090 mt in Q3 2024.
Squash (fruit) posted 2,074 mt, up 5.8% from 1,959 mt, placing it sixth among the region’s top 10 crops by volume.
Eggplant recorded 2,013 mt in Q3 2025, down 41.1% from 3,420 mt, the PSA said. Mango output was 2,011 mt, a 0.8% decline from 2,028 mt in Q3 2024.
Young jackfruit reached 1,631 mt, increasing 2.3% from 1,595 mt, while kangkong hit 1,605 mt, down 7.0% from 1,725 mt, rounding out the region’s top 10 by volume.
Beyond volumes, the PSA also reported Western Visayas’ contribution and national rank in Q3 2025 for several crops, a benchmark often used to gauge a region’s role in national supply.
Young jackfruit had a 12.6% contribution to national production, ranking third, while kangkong posted 10.5% and ranked fourth, the PSA said.
Eggplant contributed 5.6% and also ranked fourth, while squash (fruit) contributed 6.2% and ranked sixth nationwide.
Other listed shares and ranks included pineapple at 0.5% (seventh), mango at 3.2% (eighth), sweet potato at 3.2% (ninth), coconut at 2.4% (11th), banana at 1.4% (11th) and cassava at 0.7% (13th).
The PSA said “production” refers to the quantity harvested during the period, with estimates drawn from the Crops Production Survey (CrPS), and labeled the Q3 2025 figures as preliminary.
