Western Visayas corn output rises 11.9% in 2025

Western Visayas posted an estimated total corn production of 201,859 metric tons in 2025, up 11.9 percent from 180,339 metric tons in 2024, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
The increase reflects stronger performance across key producing provinces in the region, which is among the country’s major corn-growing areas and a significant source of yellow corn for feed production.
Data showed that the third quarter recorded the highest growth rate at 29.8 percent, with production rising to 87,923 metric tons from 67,729 metric tons in the same period in 2024.
Iloilo led the region’s corn production, accounting for 54.1 percent or 109,166 metric tons of the total output.
Capiz followed with 40.4 percent or 81,512 metric tons, while Antique contributed 4.5 percent or 9,077 metric tons.
The remaining provinces, Aklan and Guimaras, each accounted for about 0.5 percent of the regional output.
In terms of area harvested, Iloilo posted the largest share at 55.1 percent, equivalent to 24,710 hectares.
Capiz followed with 37.7 percent or 16,921 hectares, while Antique recorded 5.1 percent or 2,279 hectares.
Guimaras contributed 1.2 percent or 536 hectares, while Aklan accounted for less than 1 percent of the total harvested area.
By corn type, white corn production increased by 25.3 percent to 8,327 metric tons from 6,645 metric tons in 2024.
Yellow corn production grew by 11.4 percent to 193,532 metric tons from 173,694 metric tons in the previous year.
The harvested area for yellow corn expanded by 11.6 percent to 41,618 hectares in 2025.
White corn area also increased by 14 percent to 3,220 hectares.
Overall, the region recorded a total of 44,838 hectares of harvested corn area in 2025, up 11.8 percent from 40,118 hectares in 2024.
The third quarter also posted the strongest growth in harvested area at 37.8 percent, increasing to 19,636 hectares from 14,247 hectares in the same quarter last year.
