BACOLOD City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Monday the apprehension of a former police officer from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental who was included in the National Most Wanted Persons list.
National and local police units arrested Anecio Lapara Jr. in Barangay 1 Poblacion last Sunday.
In a statement, the PNP said that Lapara was accused of robbery, robbery in band, and illegal possession of firearms.
He escaped from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Ormoc City while awaiting trial for his criminal cases, according to the PNP.
Lapara was a member of the Philippine Constabulary Class 88 and was absorbed in the PNP in 1991, but was separated from the service in 1999.
He then reportedly led a criminal gang operating in Regions 7 and 8, the PNP said.
Following his arrest, General Debold Sinas, PNP chief, in a statement, said the PNP remains determined to put behind bars all police scalawags as part of their relentless internal cleansing program.
