Wanky expects more from top Iloilo cop’s performance

Is “good enough” truly sufficient?

For Brigadier General Jack Wanky, Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 chief, the efforts of Colonel Ronaldo Palomo, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), are notable but still fall short of expectations.

“He’s delivering naman but I expect more from him,” Wanky remarked succinctly when discussing Palomo’s performance. Details beyond this terse statement were not provided.

The scrutiny of Palomo’s work follows Wanky’s challenge to the IPPO nearly a month ago to intensify their campaign against illegal gambling, suggesting that dismissal could follow should any commander fail in this mission.

Wanky’s strong admonition came shortly after the cessation of 7 Aces Games and Amusement Corporation, the only Authorized Agent Corporation operating in Iloilo as of February 29.

PRO-6 data indicated that from February 29 to March 29, the IPPO conducted 15 anti-illegal drug operations resulting in 47 arrests. However, a mere five targeted STL bookies, with other operations dispersed across various illegal gambling activities.

Wanky’s expectations for a greater crackdown are seemingly tied to his anticipation of an upsurge in illicit gambling activities compensating for the discontinuation of STL.

Moreover, Wanky mentioned ongoing assessments of city and police directors regarding their drug enforcement efficacy.

“We are assessing and reviewing if they have delivered well. Kung makikita na kulang sila sa performance, kailangan ng palitan ng mas masipag na pulis,” he said, underscoring the possibility of replacements should performances not meet the set standards.
