BACOLOD City – A volunteer teacher died after she was run over by a truck loaded with sugarcane at Purok Orchids, Barangay Haba, Candoni, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
Jecel Cabildo, 38, of Barangay Banga succumbed to multiple injuries after the accident.
Police Captain Ronald Santillan, town police chief, said Cabildo was riding a tricycle driven by Jemin Valdez, 59, of Barangay Banga, when the latter slightly overlapped on the opposite lane after coming from a descending curved part of the road.
The tricycle then collided with a truck, causing the victim to fall from the tricycle, Santillan said.
Cabildo was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while Valdez suffered minor injuries.
Santillan said the 64-year-old truck driver is under police custody. He will be released from police custody after the lapse of 18-hour reglementary detention if no charges are filed against him.
Santillan said that Cabildo’s family already met with the owner of the truck.
