The Send-Off: MusiKADASIG: Lunsad-Lakbay
The University of the Philippines Concert Chorus (UPCC), fondly known as Korus, is ready to set the world stage ablaze once more. As part of their 25th International Goodwill Cultural Concert Tour, they will be hosting a send-off concert on May 19, 2024 (Sunday), at 6:00 p.m. The concert, titled “MusiKADASIG: Lunsad-Lakbay,” will be held in the Sr. Marie Madeleine Gym of St. Theresa’s College
Making the MusiKADASIG concert even more remarkable is the presence of singer-actress Ms. Nanette Inventor, adding a touch of star power to the night. Additionally, the alumnae choir of St. Theresa’s College, Quezon City, Himig Undaya, will be participating in this event, adding another layer of rich harmony to the concert.
The Artistic Director: Prof. Janet Sabas-Aracama
The UPCC sails under the distinguished baton of Prof. Janet Sabas-Aracama. A stalwart in the field of music, she is not just the conductor and artistic director of UPCC, but also a respected figure in the Conducting and Chorale Ensemble Department of the UP College of Music. Known to many as Prof. Jai, she has mentored numerous aspiring artists, some of whom have graced the stages of popular talent shows like GMA 7’s Starstruck and The Clash.
The Legacy: UP Concert Chorus’ International Impact
UPCC’s reputation extends far beyond the university’s walls. They are pioneers of choreographed choral performances, a unique approach that has garnered them recognition at major international concerts across Asia, Europe, and the US. Their performances have always been a testament to the blend of musicality, creativity, and cultural richness of the Philippines.
Musica Orbis Prague Festival
The grandeur of the UPCC’s musical journey does not stop at concerts. This year, they are set to represent the Philippines at the prestigious Musica Orbis Prague Festival, being the first Filipino choir to ever compete in this event. Their participation in this festival is a significant step in placing the country on the global choral map.
