Villar sees no change in Senate leadership

BACOLOD City – Senator Cynthia Villar said she sees no change in the Senate leadership when the 18^th Congress opens.

Villar made the statement when she attended the city’s Charter Day celebration on Tuesday as guest of honor.

She said she also gets to keep her existing committee chairmanships in the new Senate.

Villar currently chairs the committees on environment and natural resources and agriculture and food.

According to Villar, since she is an incumbent senator, she doesn’t want to change her current committee chairmanship.

“Those who would like to remain in their existing committees are allowed to do so,” Villar said.

Villar added her priority at the moment is to exercise oversight on the rice competitiveness enhancement fund which the Senate already passed.

The senator also plans to re-file two coconut industry-related bills which were vetoed by the president.

“It is very important that we can pass a law which would help [farmers],” she added.

Earlier, Villar’s name was floated as a possible replacement to Senate President Tito Sotto III.
