BACOLOD CITY — A barangay councilor and a sound operator were injured after they were electrocuted during a power interruption in Barangay Carol-an, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday night.
Mayor Benjie Miranda posted on social media seeking assistance related to the incident.
Police Lt. Nolly Gudaca, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said one of the victims first climbed to the ceiling to connect a wire to the generator.
However, he failed to secure the wire properly.
When power was restored, he was still on the ceiling, and the wire touched metal, causing him to be electrocuted.
He then fell to the ground.
The other victim was also electrocuted when he attempted to cut the wire, but he did not fall because he was wearing a harness.
Both victims, according to Gudaca, are recuperating in a hospital.
A basketball game was being held during the barangay fiesta when the incident happened.
The two victims were trying to provide power through a generator so the activity could continue.

Other people who were also swimming later saw her floating and called for help.
Rescuers tried to revive her at the scene, but she was declared dead at a hospital, according to Gudaca.
