A village official was arrested early afternoon of Oct 8, 2022 for allegedly buying stolen construction materials.
Barangay Captain Rene Abisado, 46, was nabbed at his home in Canas village in San Dionisio, Iloilo.
Members of the San Dionisio Municipal Police Station, together with the Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Special Operations Group (IPPO-SOG) and the 2nd Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company, apprehended Abisado in a hot pursuit operation.
Suspected thief Julius Delano was also collared during the police operation.
The arrest was an offshoot of a complaint lodged by an area manager of a construction firm in the area around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Lieutenant Soviet Torre, San Dionisio police chief, said the complainant said they lost several round bars.
“But at that time, they had no idea about the suspects,” he said.
It turned out that Delano stole and sold the items to Abisado.
Torre said nine pieces of round bars were taken from Abisado’s house.
The two suspects are now detained for filing of charges against them.
Delano will be slapped with a case for qualified theft while Abisado for violation of Presidential Decree 1612 or the Anti-Fencing Law of 1979.
