A village head in a hinterland barangay of Leon, Iloilo was arrested after an unlicensed firearm was taken from his possession.
Barangay Captain Nicolas Camit, 45, of Lonoc village, was arrested in a search operation around 7 am of Nov. 9, 2020.
The Leon Municipal Police Station and the 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company scoured Camit’s house by virtue of a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Ma. Yolanda Panaguiton-Gavino of Branch 34 of the Regional Trial Court 6.
Recovered from his possession was a caliber .45 pistol with two magazine assemblies and 13 live ammunition.
Lieutenant Sammy Gasataya, Leon police chief, said they raided Camit’s abode following reports of his alleged indiscriminate firing activities.
In August 2020, a case for frustrated homicide was filed against Camit by a constituent who claimed that the village head shot him.
But the case was later amicably settled.
Gasataya is now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
