Village councilman stabbed dead by neighbor

BACOLOD CITY – A 32-year-old man was charged with murder for stabbing to death a barangay official over a grudge involving the latter’s son in Barangay Canjusa, Pulupandan, Negros Occidental, last Sunday.

The victim was identified as incumbent Kagawad Fernando Jacildo, 66, of the said village.

Police Major Edfel Balibadlan, town police chief, stated that the suspect entered the house through the balcony and allegedly attacked the victim with a knife while he was asleep in his bedroom early Sunday morning.

Balibadlan explained that the incident was witnessed by the daughter of the barangay official.

Before the incident, Balibadlan noted that Jacildo saw the suspect having a drinking session with some companions while he was on his way home.

Balibadlan believed that the suspect might have planned the attack and waited for an opportunity to commit the crime.

The victim sustained six stab wounds and was declared dead at a hospital.

Balibadlan mentioned that the incident was triggered by the suspect’s grudges against the victim’s son.

The suspect and the victim’s son were good friends and neighbors. However, their relationship soured when the suspect learned about the alleged threat the victim’s son made toward the suspect’s nine-year-old niece.

Balibadlan said that the victim’s son was accused of alleged molestation of the suspect’s niece last April. As the investigation progressed, it was found that there was no molestation, but a threat instead.

Balibadlan added that this might have angered the suspect, leading him to turn his rage towards Jacildo, who was his friend’s father.

The suspect was later arrested at his piggery in the same village, and police recovered the weapon from his possession, according to Balibadlan.
