One of the most celebrated shooters in the NBA is finally calling it quits.
JJ Reddick announced through his podcast The Old Man and The Three that he is retiring from the NBA after 15 years.
“I know it’s time. It’s time for me to be a dad. It’s time for me to get ready for the next phase of my life,” said Reddick.
It was a tough year for Reddick as he spent his last season in the NBA battling injuries with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Dallas Mavericks.
“I would like to describe last season as a seven-month exercise in coming face to face with my own athletic mortality,” Reddick added.
Reddick was selected 11th overall during the 2006 NBA Draft after being named as the 2006 National Player of the Year when he played for the Duke Blue Devils.
Three years after getting drafted, the sharpshooter had the chance to win his first NBA title but fell short against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers.
After his career with the Magic, Reddick became a staple of the Los Angeles Clippers dynasty together with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford, and Matt Barnes.
Known as a deadeye shooter since his college days, Reddick will retire in the league with 1,950 made treys, 15th overall, and an outstanding 41.5% from downtown, 17th overall.
