The trailer for “Verity” has arrived, giving Filipino moviegoers a first look at Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett in the big-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling psychological thriller.
The film is set to open in Philippine cinemas on Sept. 30, with Columbia Pictures, the local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International, handling local distribution.
The trailer note sets the mood plainly: “There is darkness ahead.”
The announcement adds, “There is no light where we’re going.”
Adapted from Hoover’s New York Times best-selling novel, “Verity” follows renowned author Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway, and Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer played by Johnson.
Lowen relocates to the remote Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity, only to uncover what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes.

As Lowen reads deeper into the material, she wrestles with disturbing and twisted confessions involving Verity’s husband, Jeremy, played by Hartnett.
The story centers on Lowen’s difficulty in separating fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction and opportunity from obsession.
Michael Showalter directs the film from a screenplay by Nick Antosca.
The film is based on the book by Colleen Hoover.
The producers are Nick Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, Michael Showalter, Jordana Mollick, Anne Hathaway and Colleen Hoover.
The executive producers are Kerry Orent, Dakota Johnson and Lauren Levine.
The cast includes Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner.
“Verity” adds to the growing screen presence of Hoover’s work after the 2024 film adaptation of “It Ends With Us,” which became a box-office success and strengthened Hollywood interest in her novels.

The film also marks another high-profile genre turn for Hathaway and Johnson, with People and Entertainment Weekly reporting that the adaptation is scheduled for an Oct. 2, 2026, theatrical release in North America.

“Verity” opens in Philippine cinemas Sept. 30.
