BACOLOD CITY — A personal grudge between cousins led to the death of a 39-year-old vendor in Purok Narra, Barangay Malingin, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday.
Police Senior Master Sgt. Erwin Jamandre, investigator of the Bago City Police Station, said the victim, identified only as Edmon of Barangay Atipuluan, was found lifeless by his brothers in an irrigation canal during a search that morning.
Jamandre said the victim had visible stab wounds in the chest and stomach.
A kitchen knife was recovered from the scene.
Later that day, police arrested two suspects linked to the incident after they were positively identified by a witness as the persons reportedly involved in an altercation with the victim at his house shortly before he allegedly fell into the irrigation canal.
The suspects were identified as Rogelio, 61, and his son, Jade, 25, both residents of Barangay Atipuluan.
Jamandre said the suspects were tracked down at a hospital after one of them went there for treatment of an injury from a motorcycle accident.
He said the victim and the suspects recently argued over bet money during a relative’s wake, which might have escalated their personal grudges stemming from previous conflicts.
He added that the victim’s family would pursue a criminal complaint against the suspects, who are now under police custody.
