ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A vendor who allegedly attempted to stab a police officer was arrested early Tuesday, Sept. 2, after authorities recovered multiple sachets of suspected shabu from his possession in Sitio Cassandra, Barangay Punta Tabuc.
The suspect, identified only as alias Florencio, 44, of Barangay Tiza, was caught with approximately 45 sachets of suspected shabu, a knife, a pouch, and a box of cigarettes.
Police Chief Master Sgt. Ramil Arcangeles, spokesperson of the Roxas City Police Station, said officers aboard a mobile patrol were about to park in the area when the suspect suddenly ran, prompting suspicion.
As officers approached, Florencio allegedly drew a knife from his waist and attempted to stab one of them but was quickly subdued.
He will face charges for violating Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority, and Batas Pambansa Blg. 6.
Police estimated the value of the recovered illegal drugs at PHP 20,400.
The suspect admitted to using illegal drugs but denied selling them.
In a separate operation on the same day, a man was arrested through a search warrant for violation of RA 9165 in Barangay Tapulang, Maayon, Capiz.
The suspect was identified as Emmanuel Brinklyn Distor Diaz, alias Emman, 35, a resident of the area.
Authorities recovered eight sachets of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia from Diaz during the search.
Diaz had previously been arrested for illegal drug trafficking but was released after entering a plea bargaining agreement and having the case dismissed for lack of merit, according to Police Maj. Syril Punzalan, chief of the Maayon Municipal Police Station.
