ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Selling of essential products at Burgos Street here was temporarily stopped after residents and vendors flocked late Monday afternoon which violated safe distancing protocol amid the pandemic.
Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas announced the temporary closure shortly after.
The crowded scene became viral on social media and earned criticisms for breaching health protocols.
Burgos Street turned into a public market area because of the early closure of Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center (TATC), the city’s premier market.
Another problem in Burgos Street is the lack of parking space for the vehicles.
While everyone can be seen wearing face masks and face shields, the area became crowded making it impossible for physical distancing.
Dadivas said he already instructed the police and the Anti-Covid Task Force to enforce and implement health protocols.
Meanwhile, Dadivas and his family are under home quarantine after he was exposed to a COVID-19 positive patient earlier.
Dadivas assured the public that he and his family are in good condition and are asymptomatic.
He said that he will still perform his functions even at home.
Roxas City was placed under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine from June 1-16, 2021 because of the rising COVID-19 cases.
