Iloilo City government has set up Uswag Community Kitchens anew as the city saw the need to provide food to families affected by the continuing lockdowns in barangays amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
The city government will establish 135 community kitchens in the metro for the month of September.
The community kitchens will be headed by personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) will prepare, package, and distribute goods and meals to the affected families.
Initially, the city prepared food supplies to accommodate meals good for three days.
The community kitchen project was initiated by the city government on March 22 as the city was placed under enhanced community quarantine.
Community kitchens were established in day care centers and barangays halls to provide free meals to city residents and frontliners.
In June, the initiative took a back seat after serving 1.9 million free meals to 240 community kitchens in the metro. (With a report from City PIO/ERS)
