The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses extended its perfect campaign in the ongoing UAAP Season 86 Women’s Volleyball Tournament after dispatching the struggling Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), 25-19, 25-16, 25-19, on March 9, 2024, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Stealing the spotlight for the Golden Tigresses was Angge Poyos who tallied her best scoring performance of the season so far.
After a steak of consistent outings for UST, Poyos pulled off her most efficient offensive game after top-scoring the Golden Tigresses with 26 markers.
Poyos had a total of 41 attacking attempts during the game and also made her presence felt in the other departments, chipping in three service aces and two blocks.
UST quickly bagged the momentum of the game after Poyos displayed a high-level of spiking in the opening set and single-handedly piled up their points.
Despite the defensive adjustments Ateneo deployed in an attempt to slow her down, Poyos just proved to be too much after locating the gaps in the opposition’s defense.
Poyos immediately had 11 points in just 20 minutes and added more conversions after Cassie Carballo set more offensive plays for her in the last two sets.
Aside from Poyos, Regina Jurado also showed the way for the UST spikers after contributing 12 points built from 11 successful attacks alongside 10 excellent digs.
On the other hand, ADMU was paced by Lyann De Guzman and led her team in the losing effort with 11 points, five digs, and five excellent receptions.
