USA Archives Museum Showcases Lenten Traditions in Exhibit

The University of San Agustin Archives and Museum is offering a reflective look into Lenten traditions through its ongoing exhibit titled Kwaresma: USA sa Kasakit, Nagahugpong sa Paglaum kay Kristo at the third floor of the Fray Luis de Leon Building.

Running until May 30, the exhibit features religious artifacts, traditional processional pieces and devotional items that highlight the themes of Christ’s passion, suffering and resurrection.

According to USA Publications, the exhibit aims to reconnect the community with the historical and spiritual practices introduced by Augustinian missionaries in the region.

Rev. Fr. Dominador Besares, OSA, USA archivist and museum curator, said the exhibit is a reminder of the Augustinians’ foundational role in spreading the Catholic faith in Western Visayas.

“First of all, it will ignite the Augustinian spirit,” he said.

“You know that Augustinians, being the first missionaries to arrive in the country, were not only builders of physical churches in the region but also pioneers of religious practices like the Lenten celebration,” he added.

The museum invites visitors to explore the exhibit and deepen their understanding of Lenten heritage through Augustinian spirituality.
